WFOE dividends · Inherited funds · Banking & FX flagship · Expat banking.
China resident individuals have an annual convenient foreign-exchange quota (commonly described as the equivalent of USD 50,000) for personal current-account items. It is not a corporate profit channel and not the inheritance SAFE file. Expat salary remittance is a bank authenticity review — do not design WFOE dividends around “who still has quota.” Splitting across relatives or using an underground bank is the high-risk version of this page. Used-up quota does not always mean impossible: documented current-account items may still be processed with extra review. A frozen card is a police/bank stop-pay process, not a quota appeal.

Scope and legal framework
Individual FX administration (SAFE). Resident individuals have a convenient annual quota for personal current-account purchases and payments. The number and the list of convenience items are SAFE/bank practice — confirm the circular your bank prints.
Authenticity / anti-splitting. Banks must review purpose. Structured use of other people’s quotas and underground banks are enforcement targets, not life hacks.
Practical workflow
- Classify: personal, salary, corporate, or estate.
- If personal: one bank, one story, keep invoices/tuition/family proofs.
- If salary: tax and labour proofs — expat banking.
- If corporate or estate: leave this page.
Common mistakes
- Paying a “helper” to use other IDs.
- Booking WFOE profit as family gifts.
- Shopping five bank branches the same afternoon.
Action checklist
- Path labelled: personal / salary / company / heir.
- Purpose documents in one PDF.
- One counter, one day.
- No third-party quota.

Common questions
Quick answers for foreign nationals and employers. Rules vary by city and change over time.
Does expat salary use the 50k quota?
Do not design it that way. Banks run an authenticity review on after-tax wages. Ask the payroll bank, not a forum.
Can we take WFOE profit out on personal quotas?
That is the failure mode this page exists to stop. Use the dividend path.
What to prepare before contacting counsel
Send a focused first package so counsel can check conflicts, understand scope, and identify urgent deadlines.

- Names of all parties and affiliates for a conflict check.
- Key contracts, notices, correspondence, filings, or decisions.
- Known deadlines, preferred language, location, and budget constraints.
Destination and China-side counsel
Use International Lawyers for host-country counsel. Use Find Counsel when a PRC workstream (ODI, SAFE, onshore entities, mainland contracts) still sits beside the destination matter.
