Employee benefits should be separated into mandatory social-insurance obligations, retirement eligibility, collectively or contractually promised benefits, and voluntary enterprise programs. Begin with the employing entity, work location, employee category, contribution history, payroll base and governing policy; national rules and local contribution practice must be checked together.

Preserve signed documents, policy versions, payroll and contribution data, approvals, account statements, employee communications and a dated event ledger. Employment, social-security, corporate, securities, tax and foreign-exchange deadlines may run independently.

Subject to editorial and legal review. Benefits and incentive arrangements are employee-, issuer-, location- and plan-specific. Obtain case-specific employment, tax, corporate and regulatory advice.

Map mandatory social insurance

Identify pension, medical, work-injury, unemployment and maternity coverage, registration, contribution base and employer/employee shares. Reconcile payroll, agency records and individual accounts. Contract language cannot simply waive a statutory contribution duty.

Retirement and pension eligibility

Calculate the applicable statutory retirement timetable, contribution years and local processing requirements. China began progressive retirement-age adjustments in 2025, with separate rules for flexible early or delayed retirement. Do not rely on a historic age table without the employee’s birth date, category and current implementation schedule.

Enterprise annuities

Enterprise annuities are voluntary supplementary pensions built on lawful participation in basic pension insurance. Review the plan document, employee consultation, eligibility, employer and employee contributions, vesting, account allocation, trustee and investment-management arrangements, suspension and transfer rules.

Other enterprise benefits

Classify supplemental medical cover, commercial insurance, allowances, housing support, leave enhancements and welfare funds by source: law, collective contract, individual contract, handbook or discretionary practice. Repeated practice may create employment-dispute risk even where a policy uses discretionary language.

Mobility, exits and acquisitions

For transfers or terminations, reconcile contribution gaps, account transfers, annuity vesting, benefit continuation and documentary handover. In acquisitions, test which entity bears historic arrears and whether promised plans survive restructuring.
