Invalidation is a registered-mark remedy; the ground you pick decides how long you have.

Once a mark is registered, opposition is over. Invalidation before CNIPA (with court appeal) can still cancel it. Relative grounds — earlier similar marks, certain prior rights — are generally time-limited (often five years from registration, with extra room against bad-faith registrants of well-known marks). Absolute grounds such as prohibited signs or bad-faith filings without intent to use may be brought without that same five-year bar. Evidence of squatting, non-use, and your prior rights must match the chosen ground. Non-use cancellation after three years of non-use is a related but distinct tool.

Is invalidation the same as opposition?

No. Opposition is pre-registration. Invalidation is post-registration. Grounds overlap, clocks do not.

Does a well-known mark get extra time?

Bad-faith registration of a well-known mark can be challenged without the ordinary five-year relative-right limit. Proving well-known status in China is its own heavy file.
